On the Study of Music
Value of Music Education

ALBUM NOTES:  This album is written in a lyrical, contemplative style with unique harmonies, relaxing and calming, with dual aspects.  It is at once a "literal" depiction of the elements of nature inspired by much time spent reflecting  and listening to the sounds and music in nature.:  the breeze whispering through the leaves of the dancing tree branches; birds singing; bees buzzing among the flowers ablaze with color and perfuming the air;  the river, at times turbulent, at others, murmuring gently as it flows out to sea with its waves crashing to the shore, then the ebbing of the tide;  the mist on the mountain gently kissing one's cheek;  the patter of raindrops;  the warmth of the radiant sun shining down from blue skies, clouds overhead;  the quiet of a moonlit night...All become also metaphors for our journey in life, the many paths from which to choose, life flowing always onward like a river, the climb at times steep like a mountain.....the struggles encountered, but always with a sense of hope, that ray of light in the darkness;  a friend to take your hand and guide you along the way as you continue seeking and searching................. "Lacrimosa"...for remembering our mothers who gave so much...feeling sad at their passing, but also celebrating their beautiful lives.............................The ringing of the bells calling us to have faith and hope, to persevere, to have compassion for all humanity and this great Earth..............may there be no more suffering. ..... many use this music for meditation.

Composed and performed on piano and bells (using a string of tiny bells, a string of medium bells, other small bells, a brass bowl and an old bundt pan) by Jacqueline Tschabold Bhuyan,  with Cello improvisations, arrangements, and use of digital delay by David Darling.

Working on this project has been a beautiful journey.  I very gratefully thank David  for his encouragement and mentoring, leading me to realize my longheld dream of publishing my music, and sharing it with all.  This journey was made more wonderful with David contributing his very beautiful celli creations to 4 of the tracks.   Along the way, sharing our childhood memories of growing up together in Elkhart where we had a great, inspiring music program, and the loving support of our families and community, was very special.....................Jackie Bhuyan
I really enjoyed creating the cello
music for Jackie's wonderful music.  My first love was classical music and these compositions were wonderful to embrace with improvised phrases and ideas that were inspired by Jackie's compositions that range from sounding like Brahms to Ravel.  Also the cinematic quality of each piece created a feeling of listening to stories about the great mysteries of life itself.  I especially enjoyed the sense of rubato that is part of her compositional quality and performance.  Perhaps even more fun in this project is that we grew up together in the town of Elkhart, Indiana where we had the same inspired experience with our teachers and colleagues being so inspired by music.  We had a lot of fun and great conversations about the memories of those times in the late 50's .........David Darling                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         DAVID DARLING, two time Grammy nominated cellist, has travelled internationally as a teacher, composer and performer. His compositions have been popular with many producers for international films such as "Heat", "Mostly Mozart", and Wim Wenders ' "Wings of Desire".  In addition, he has performed on many CD recordings, both solo (with multi-track celli and piano) and on collaborations with many musicians.  David is co-founder of Music for People, an international organization dedicated to teaching music improvisation and leadership skills in the humanistic teaching of music and creativity.  He has long worked in support of arts/music programs in education and schools, and is known for his compassion, belief in humanity, and his inspirational teaching.   David's recent release "Prayer for Compassion" has been awarded the Grammy for Best New Age album 2010.

A great CD with which to mediate and contemplate life's flow.  It captures the building of a musical collaboration from high school orchestras in the 1950's to mature composition, improvisation and musicianship in 2009 when committed and trained musicians are reunited.  Keyboardist and composer Jacqueline Bhuyan and innovative, internationally known solo and group concert cellist and music educator David Darling blend skills together into a reflective session of music making that is also a fine example of a sometimes multi-tracking and electronically enhanced string instrument improvising to blend perfectly into and build upon the harmonic and emotional structure of music for piano as they weave their meditative magic.......Robert W. Martin, Community orchestra bassist, former banker, Elkhart, Indiana.

Have you ever been late for an appointment?  You're frustrated, late, your heart is pounding.  This was our state of mind when my wife, Vera, and I ran into traffic on the way to an important gathering..........."Reflections on Life's Journey" came to the rescue!  We put on the CD and the relaxing, harmonious tones of Jacqueline Bhuyan's beautiful piano playing was the perfect antidote.  The dance between David Darling's cello and Jacqueline's piano eased our tensions, and we were human once again..........This is not simply an "ambient soudscape" album ... these tracks follow an instrumental path that keeps harmonic and chordal interest throughout, but never fails to soothe.....Clint Goss, Manifest Spirit Records

I LOVE Jackie's CD!!!!  It's very beautiful music and expressive and dramatic, and so inspired!  I have listened to it non-stop since yesterday.  The CD cover is also incredibly well done, beautiful, amazing.  Most first CDs aren't done so well and seriously with all the home studios these days.  She really put a lot into this....Stephanie in Denver, Colorado

Jackie, your musical pieces in "Reflections on Life's Journey" are a real treat, calms down my senses everytime I listen to them.  "The Sea" does actually conjure up the image of rippling waves to the mind's eye.  And it's such a rejuvenating feeling.....thank you for creating such beautiful music.".....Ankita Das, Arizona

COMMENTS........Various reviews/frequent comments by audience members describe my music as being  ...........                        "Beautiful/calming/relaxing....at times ethereal... or having a sense of mystery, .......telling a story ...  cinematic        ......contemplative   ....... music for relaxation"
